Two out rally

I had an awesome game of softball tonight. The weather is finally +20C, my allergies that kicked in enormously over the weekend are finally subsiding, I had a full, stressful day and I needed a game.

I showed up JUST in time to play, so I was at the bottom of the batting order. My team had a great first inning at bat, so we all played easy and with confidence, which makes it easier and more fun, as you know. During the first couple of innings on defense, I picked up a couple of grounders that got past the infield, but didn't have any real action. My first at bat I was walked, and eventually made it round the bases and home, which is nice, I will always take one of those when they come.

My next at bat was two out rally time. I had runners on first and second. I hit a single that was long enough to make the deep fielders come chasing, and scored two RBIs. I didn't end up making it around the bases on the bats of the following hitters.

Later, in deep left field, a line drive was hit to medium depth between centre and left. I bolted, sprinting and taking really long, full strides. I knew a rover was back peddling and the centre fielder was sprinting towards the same point. Two steps away I screamed "MINE!" and cut off the ball in front of me about a foot off the ground. My centre fielder had circled back behind me just in case. That catch made me feel great. Even players from the other team commented on it.

At my last at bat I saw a pitch that was just where I wanted it. I put some strength behind a good (not great) cut, and made perfect contact. (You know when it just feels and sounds great?) I took off for first base without looking at the ball - it was two outs already. The first base coach told me to go hard to second and as I rounded first I saw the ball bouncing past the center fielder. As I rounded second the third base coach was pointing home. I turned on my wheels. At third I was told to jog it in. They weren't getting the throw in. The whole team came up to slap hands with me.

It's not often I hit one of those. Let alone have a great game like that. And what a nice summer it will be.

Another one bites the dust

Congratulations C&C. We attended the wedding of friends C and C yesterday, a warm, intimate gathering of friends and family. A tasteful ceremony, followed by a wonderful dinner interspersed with a couple of heartfelt speeches. Very nice. And the new couple is off to Europe for a couple of weeks to enjoy spring and marriage.
